SUMMER 2015
DESIGN STUDIO DEGREES OF PUBLICNESS – CASE STUDY LJUBLJANA
MENTOR MARUŠA ZOREC

Why do we live in the cities today? What is our relation to the place? Do we need public space and how many possible levels does it offer? What is the role of Architectural Museums in our time and how do they communicate with the users? How to see the values of the existing structures and how to place new buildings beside them? Where are the limits?

These were the questions we tried to resolve in this design studio.

The building is situated at Park Zvezda in the centre of Ljubljana. The building interior is semi-public, meaning an entrance fee needs to be paid, while the roof terraces are completely accessible by everyone. At the back of the building is a massive staircase that can be used to host a variety of events. The building also features ‘sneak peek’ rooms – they are part of the building’s interior only accessible via the staircase and they enable visitors to see some larger exhibits without actually entering.
